Description
The mid tier, where saving does not pay
The EncorePro 500 sits between the 300 and 700 ranges. Against the 300 it mainly adds build quality: aircraft-grade aluminium joints, a more refined hinge for the earpieces and a wider choice of wearing styles. In a contact centre, where the headset goes from the head to the desk and back twenty times a day, that tells on service life. It is also lighter, 74 g against 105 g on the 320.
Four wearing styles in one range
The 500 is the only one of the three that offers all four wearing styles. The 510 and 515 are monaural, the 520 and 525 stereo, the 530 is worn on the ear and weighs only 22 g, and the 540 and 545 are convertible, that is with a headband and an earloop in one box. This is the main reason the 500 range is deployed where agents pick what suits them.
What a voice tube is and when to want one
The models with the letter V, that is the 510V and 520V, have a voice tube instead of a conventional microphone. It is a hollow tube that carries the voice from the mouth to the microphone. It is clear, easy to clean and replaceable; we carry the spare under code 85Q39AA. It suits operations with hygiene requirements and places where headsets rotate between agents. The drawback is that the tube is more fragile and has to be replaced.
Strengths and limits
Strengths
Aircraft-grade aluminium joints, a longer service life than the 300 range
Four wearing styles in one range, including over the ear and convertible
Lighter than the 300 range, 74 g against 105 g in the stereo configuration
A QD break-away, the agent leaves the desk without taking the headset off
Limits and what to tell the customer
Without an adapter or a QD cable the headset is unusable. It must be ordered separately, according to what it plugs into.
Only the USB codes carry platform certifications.
The box holds the headset alone. No cable, no guide, no spare ear cushions.
The driver bandwidth is narrow, 150 Hz to 6.8 kHz. That is deliberate for voice intelligibility, but it is not for music.
⚑ atlantis note
The cable always belongs in the quote, or the customer will call
The most common complaint about QD headsets is not a fault but a missing cable. The customer opens the box and has nothing to plug into. So put an adapter or a cable into every quote that carries a QD code. Ask what it plugs into: a computer means the DA75 or DA85, a desk phone means a QD to plug cable chosen by brand, and both at once means an MDA switch.
Let the agents choose the wearing style
The 500 is the only range with all four wearing styles and that is worth using. On a larger deployment order a few units of each configuration to try. After eight hours the difference in comfort between wearing on the ear and on a headband is substantial and it varies from person to person. The convertible 540 settles the argument by letting the user choose.
Certifications on the USB codes are not aligned
The universal USB codes in the 500 range have three different certifications: Skype for Business on the 515, Zoom on the 525 and Skype for Business again on the 545. Skype for Business is a long-retired platform. If the customer requires certification, verify it for the specific code and expect HP's entry to be stale. The Microsoft Teams versions, that is 783R1AA and 783R2AA, carry Teams certification and a dedicated button.
Who it suits
Recommended use | a smart digital contact centre headset with aircraft-grade aluminium joints, a flexible noise cancelling boom and a choice of QD or USB connection |
|---|---|
Position in the portfolio | corded contact centre headsets, EncorePro 500 range, the middle of the three |
How it differs from the 300 range | a tougher build with aluminium joints, a lower weight and four wearing styles instead of two, plus voice tube variants |
Suitable
Contact centres on shift work where headsets change users daily and have to last. Workplaces where agents pick their wearing style. Operations with hygiene requirements, where a voice tube fits.
Verify
What the headset plugs into and pick the adapter or cable accordingly. Which wearing style the agents want. Whether the customer requires platform certification, which only the USB codes carry. Whether a voice tube is wanted.
Consider another model
EncorePro 300 for a more affordable volume deployment, EncorePro 700 for the top tier, Blackwire 3200 for an ordinary office, Savi 7300 for a wireless contact centre.
The “Verify” and “Consider another model” cards come from the experience of the atlantis team.

Frequently asked questions
Can I plug the headset straight into a computer?
No. This code has a QD connector, that is a break-away, not USB. It needs a DA75, DA85 or DA85-M adapter, or an MDA switch. If you want to plug in directly, order a USB code, that is the 515, 525 or 545.
What wearing styles does the range offer?
All four. The 510 and 515 are monaural, the 520 and 525 stereo, the 530 is worn on the ear and weighs only 22 g, and the 540 and 545 are convertible, that is with a headband and an earloop in one box.
What is the voice tube on the 510V and 520V?
It is a hollow tube that carries the voice from the mouth to the microphone. It is clear, easy to clean and replaceable. It suits operations with hygiene requirements. We carry the spare tube under code 85Q39AA.
Is the headset certified for Microsoft Teams?
Not this code, platform certification applies only to the USB codes. Microsoft Teams certification and a dedicated button belong to codes 783R1AA, that is the 515, and 783R2AA, that is the 525.
How does it differ from the 300 range?
It has aircraft-grade aluminium joints and is tougher, it is lighter at 74 g against 105 g in the stereo configuration, and it offers four wearing styles instead of two. It also has voice tube variants, which the 300 range does not.
