Description
A conference phone, not a speaker for a laptop
The Poly Trio 8300 is a telephone device in its own right. It registers to the PBX or to the customer's voice platform, it has its own number and its own display, so the call is not run by anyone's laptop. That is the fundamental difference against the Poly Sync range, which is always an audio device of a connected computer. The phone in the room therefore works on its own, whoever walks in and with whatever they bring.
The entry model of the Trio range and what that means
The Trio 8300 is the most affordable model in the range and the differences against the C60 are substantive, not cosmetic. It picks up to 3.7 metres instead of 6.1, it has a monochrome 3.5 inch display instead of a colour five inch touch one, and a single network port instead of a two-port switch. In exchange it makes do with PoE class 0 and a draw of up to 13 W, which on an older switch is the difference between "it starts" and "it does not". For a small or medium meeting room it is an honest choice, for a large table it is not.
One cable into the room
The phone is PoE powered, so one network cable into the room is enough and no socket at the table has to be arranged. There is no power supply in the box, and where PoE is not available the 85W92AA#ABB injector is ordered. To cover a longer table you can use daisy chaining of up to four phones. For a longer table we carry the 85X00AA expansion microphone kit, named “Trio 8300/8800 Expansion Microphones”. Poly Trio C60 uses a different kit, code 85X02AA.
Strengths and limits
Strengths
It makes do with PoE per 802.3af, class 0, so even an older switch will do
Three cardioid microphones and Poly NoiseBlock noise suppression
Wi-Fi in the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, so the phone needs no data socket
Daisy chaining of up to four phones for a longer table
Mass deployment through Poly Zero Touch Provisioning
Limits and what to tell the customer
There is no power supply in the box. Without PoE the 85W92AA#ABB injector is required.
The display is monochrome, 3.5 inches.
It has a single network port. Unlike the C60 no further device can be chained through it, so the phone occupies the room's data socket.
We carry expansion microphone kits only for the Trio 8500, 8800 and C60. The 3.7 m pickup cannot be extended on this model, and a longer table calls for chained phones or the C60.
The warranty is one year, not two as on part of the Poly range.
⚑ atlantis note
Table length decides, not room size
Enquiries for conference phones usually talk in square metres, but what decides is the distance of the furthest participant from the phone. The Trio 8300 picks up to 3.7 metres, which covers a table for roughly six to eight people if it stands in the middle. On a longer table the people at the ends sit outside the pickup and the result is a complaint about the audio, not about the phone. Beyond 3.7 metres either chain two phones or offer the Trio C60 with 6.1 m pickup and expansion microphones.
PoE class 0 is this model's quiet advantage
The Trio 8300 is in PoE class 0 with a draw of up to 13 W, while the Trio C60 needs 802.3at and class 4. On an older switch that handles only 802.3af, the 8300 will start and the C60 may not. In refurbishments and with customers who do not want to replace a switch, that tends to be a stronger argument than display size. We carry the 85W92AA#ABB injector as 802.3at, which does not trouble a class 0 phone, since an at injector also powers af devices.
Settle the line question before ordering
This model has up to 3 lines, a maximum of one of them for Skype for Business and Microsoft Teams. The available wording is not unambiguous and Skype for Business is a discontinued platform on top of that. So ask what the phone will register to, and in an environment built on Microsoft Teams verify the terms with us in advance. HP offers a dedicated Teams version on the C60 (849B6AA#ABB), not on the 8300.

Suitable
A small or medium meeting room with a table for roughly six to eight people where the phone stands in the middle. An environment with a PBX or a cloud SIP service and an older switch that handles only 802.3af.
Verify
The distance of the furthest participant from the phone. Whether the room has PoE and whether an injector will be needed. Which platform the phone will register to. Whether the phone should occupy the room's only data socket.
Consider another model
The Poly Trio C60 for a longer table, a touch display, a two-port switch, expansion microphones and a dedicated Microsoft Teams version. A Poly Sync where the meeting should be run by the user's laptop rather than by the phone.
The "Verify" and "Consider another model" cards come from the experience of the atlantis team.

What to verify before ordering and installing
Table length: pickup is to 3.7 m from the phone, beyond that chaining or the C60 is the answer
PoE in the room: 802.3af class 0 is enough, and where there is no PoE order the 85W92AA#ABB injector
Data socket: the phone has a single port and no pass-through, so allow for it in the room's cabling
Platform: what the phone will register to, HP listing up to 3 lines and a maximum of one for Skype for Business and Microsoft Teams
Placement: the phone belongs in the middle of the table, not at its edge
Mass deployment: Poly Zero Touch Provisioning, agree the configuration in advance
The atlantis team helps with every point. From verifying PoE and the room's cabling through the choice of model by table length to mass configuration and user training.
Management and services
Mass management: Poly Zero Touch Provisioning for the initial deployment and RealPresence Resource Manager version 10.1 and above for ongoing management
Poly+ Partner: local support from an experienced certified team in Czech, by phone, chat, web and video call, priority device replacement where the manufacturer ships the replacement the next business day and covers the shipping, all under the terms of the programme and for its entire validity, so the care can continue after the warranty ends

Warranty
Standard one-year HP Poly limited warranty. Extended support with expedited replacement is provided by the Poly+ Partner programme.
FAQ
Is a power supply in the box?
No. The box holds the phone, a CAT-5E network cable and a setup sheet. The phone expects PoE power per IEEE 802.3af, class 0. Where the room has no PoE, an injector is ordered, in our offering code 85W92AA#ABB.
How large a table does the phone cover?
HP quotes pickup to 3.7 metres from the phone. With the phone in the middle of the table that covers a table for roughly six to eight people. On a longer table the people at the ends sit outside the pickup, so chain two phones or choose the Trio C60 with 6.1 m pickup.
How does it differ from the Trio C60?
The Trio 8300 picks up to 3.7 m against 6.1 m, has a monochrome 3.5 inch display against a colour five inch touch one, and a single network port against a two-port switch. In exchange it makes do with PoE class 0, while the C60 needs 802.3at and class 4. Expansion microphones and a dedicated Microsoft Teams version exist only on the C60.
Can expansion microphones be added to the phone?
We carry kits only for the Trio 8500 and 8800 (85X00AA) and for the Trio C60 (85X02AA). For a longer table on this model count on chaining phones, up to four of which can be chained.
Does the phone support Microsoft Teams?
This model supports up to 3 lines, a maximum of one of them for Skype for Business and Microsoft Teams. A dedicated Teams certified version exists on the Trio C60 under code 849B6AA#ABB, not on the 8300. In an environment built on Teams verify the terms with us in advance.
Does the phone have a touch display?
This model has a monochrome LCD with a 3.5 inch diagonal. A colour 5 inch touch display is offered in the range by the Trio C60.
