Description
The core of the system, not an accessory
The Rove B2 is the heart of a DECT system. Handsets register to it, it holds the calls and it is what connects to the PBX or cloud service. System capacity is therefore not set by the number of handsets but by the choice of base station. The B4 is intended for multicell deployment, that is a campus, a multistorey building or a large warehouse. For one floor or a smaller site the B2 is enough.
System capacity, not station capacity
For the B4 HP quotes up to 8 simultaneous calls per station and up to 2,000 across the system, which holds up to 254 stations and 1,000 handsets. A single B4 station therefore carries fewer calls than a B2, but the system is built from many stations. The number of stations is not determined by coverage alone, but also by how many calls have to run at once in a given zone.
Coverage is extended by repeaters, not by another base station
The range of one station is up to 50 metres indoors. Coverage comes from two sources, from further B4 stations and from Rove R8 repeaters, of which HP allows up to three per B4 station. A station needs a data socket with PoE, a repeater only a mains one. With repeaters HP quotes up to 300 metres outdoors. Design the coverage in advance, adding to it later works out more expensive.
Strengths and limits
Strengths
A multicell system of up to 254 stations and 1,000 handsets, capacity growing with each added station
PoE power, so the station needs no mains socket where it is mounted
A gigabit RJ-45 port and an Ethernet cable in the box
DECT end-to-end encryption and DECT security certification
Limits and what to tell the customer
Handsets are not in the box. The Rove 30 and Rove 40 are ordered separately.
The power adapter is not in the box. The station expects PoE, the adapter is optional, code 85W97AA#ABB.
A single station carries only 8 simultaneous calls, fewer than the B2. System capacity comes from the number of stations.
It carries only three repeaters, half as many as the B2. On the B4 coverage is solved mainly with further stations.
⚑ atlantis note
Design the system top down, from the base station to the handsets
A Rove enquiry usually arrives as a handset count. A usable specification starts elsewhere, with the number of simultaneous calls at peak and the area to be covered. That determines the choice between the B2 and the B4 and the number of R8 repeaters. Only then are the Rove 30 or Rove 40 handsets added. The reverse order ends in a follow-up order and an unhappy customer.
Do not mix goods from different regions
European Rove base stations work in the 1880 to 1900 MHz band, while the US versions of the handsets and the repeater use 1920 to 1930 MHz. The handset auto configures to the band of the base station, but even so order the whole system in European codes with the #ABB suffix and do not top it up with goods from other regions.
The B2 has the adapter in the box, the B4 does not
A detail that is missing from project budgets more often than any other. The Rove B2 has the power adapter in the box, the B4 does not, it is PoE powered and the adapter is optional, code 85W97AA#ABB. So if the design calls for several B4 stations in places without PoE, add the adapters.

Suitable
A campus, a multistorey building, a large warehouse or a production hall where a large area has to be covered and dozens of calls run at once. A hospital, a hotel, a logistics centre.
Verify
How many calls will run at once in each zone. How many stations will be needed and whether PoE is available where they are mounted. How many R8 repeaters will fill in the coverage. Which PBX or cloud service the system will register to.
Consider another product
The Rove B2 for one floor or a smaller site, with the adapter in the box and a higher call capacity per station. The Rove R8 repeater if the base station is already deployed and only the coverage is missing.
The "Verify" and "Consider another product" cards come from the experience of the atlantis team.

FAQ
How many handsets can I connect to this system?
Up to 1,000 handsets across the whole multicell system, which holds up to 254 base stations. Call capacity is up to 8 per station and up to 2,000 across the system.
How does it differ from the Rove B2?
The Rove B4 is meant for a multicell system of up to 254 stations and 1,000 handsets, the Rove B2 for one or two cells. A single B4 station handles up to 8 simultaneous calls against 10 on the B2, but the capacity of a B4 system is up to 2,000 calls. The B4 is PoE powered and has no adapter in the box, the B2 has one. The B4 takes three repeaters, the B2 six.
Is a power adapter in the box?
No. The Rove B4 is PoE powered and the box holds an Ethernet cable and a desk stand instead of an adapter. Where there is no PoE at the mounting point, order the 85W97AA#ABB adapter, an external universal 5 V 2 A supply.
What area does the system cover?
In a multicell system coverage is determined by the number of deployed stations. The range of one station is up to 50 metres indoors, and with R8 repeaters up to 300 metres outdoors depending on the environment. We design the station placement from the floor plan.
How many R8 repeaters can be connected?
Up to three Poly Rove R8 repeaters on one Rove B4 station. On the Rove B2 it is six. A repeater needs no data socket, a mains one is enough, and it supports encrypted daisy chaining.
Which DECT band does the station work in?
The 1880 to 1900 MHz band for Europe, Australia, the United Kingdom and the Asia Pacific region. The US versions of the handsets and the repeater use 1920 to 1930 MHz. Order the whole system in European codes with the #ABB suffix.
