Description

The core of the system, not an accessory

The Rove B2 is the heart of a DECT system. Handsets register to it, it holds the calls and it is what connects to the PBX or cloud service. System capacity is therefore not set by the number of handsets but by the choice of base station. The B2 is intended for single or dual cell deployment, typically one floor, one building or a smaller site. For a campus or a multistorey building the B4 with multicell operation is the right answer.

How many calls will run at once

For the B2 HP quotes up to 10 simultaneous calls in single cell mode. That is the figure that decides a deal more often than the handset count. In a warehouse with twenty handsets where five people are on a call at the same time, a B2 is enough. On a site where calling is continuous and the peak exceeds ten calls, a B4 is needed. Ask about the number of simultaneous calls at peak, not only about the number of users.

Coverage is extended by repeaters, not by another base station

Range is up to 50 metres indoors. Where the signal does not reach, a Rove R8 repeater is added, and HP allows up to six of them on a B2. A repeater needs no data socket, a mains socket is enough, and it supports encrypted daisy chaining. With repeaters HP quotes up to 300 metres outdoors. Design the coverage in advance, adding repeaters later in response to user complaints works out more expensive.

Strengths and limits

Strengths

  • A 5 V 2 A power adapter with an EU plug is in the box, unlike on the B4

  • Up to six R8 repeaters per station, twice as many as on the B4

  • Dual cell operation covers roughly 1,390 m² without moving to a multicell system

  • A desk stand is part of the box

Limits and what to tell the customer

  • Handsets are not in the box. The Rove 30 and Rove 40 are ordered separately.

  • Capacity is 10 simultaneous calls in single cell mode, a larger site needs the B4.

  • We do not state a network port or PoE power for this code.

  • We do not state the number of registered handsets, only simultaneous calls and up to 20 service profiles per handset.

⚑ atlantis note

Design the system top down, from the base station to the handsets

A Rove enquiry usually arrives as a handset count. A usable specification starts elsewhere, with the number of simultaneous calls at peak and the area to be covered. That determines the choice between the B2 and the B4 and the number of R8 repeaters. Only then are the Rove 30 or Rove 40 handsets added. The reverse order ends in a follow-up order and an unhappy customer.

Do not mix goods from different regions

European Rove base stations work in the 1880 to 1900 MHz band, while the US versions of the handsets and the repeater use 1920 to 1930 MHz. The handset auto configures to the band of the base station, but even so order the whole system in European codes with the #ABB suffix and do not top it up with goods from other regions.

The B2 has the adapter in the box, the B4 does not

A detail that is missing from project budgets more often than any other. The Rove B2 has the power adapter in the box, the B4 does not, it is PoE powered and the adapter is optional, code 85W97AA#ABB. So if the design calls for several B4 stations in places without PoE, add the adapters.

How it differs from the other products in the range

against the B4 it is meant for one or two cells rather than a multicell system, it has the adapter in the box and it carries twice as many repeaters

Suitable

One floor, one building or a smaller site where at peak no more than ten calls run at once. A warehouse, a workshop, a smaller hotel, a surgery, a shop.

Verify

How many calls will run at once at peak. What area and how many floors need covering. How many R8 repeaters will be required. Which PBX or cloud service the system will register to. How the station is connected to the network.

Consider another product

The Rove B4 for a multicell system, more simultaneous calls and PoE power. The Rove R8 repeater if the base station is already deployed and only the coverage is missing.

The "Verify" and "Consider another product" cards come from the experience of the atlantis team.

What to verify before ordering and deploying

  1. Simultaneous calls at peak: up to ten and the B2 is enough, above ten the B4 is needed

  2. Area and number of floors: one cell covers roughly 465 m², two cells roughly 1,390 m²

  3. Repeaters: up to six R8 units on this station, each needs a mains socket

  4. Network connection and power: Verify a network port and PoE for this code with us before ordering

  5. PBX or service: what the system will register to and how many SIP accounts will be needed

  6. Handsets: the Rove 30 or Rove 40, they are not in the base station box

The atlantis team helps with every point. From the coverage design and the choice of base station through connecting to the PBX to handset registration and user training.

Management and services

  • System management: configuration, handset registration and service profile assignment are done on the base station, not on the handset

  • Poly+ Partner: local support from an experienced certified team in Czech, by phone, chat, web and video call, priority device replacement where the manufacturer ships the replacement the next business day and covers the shipping, all under the terms of the programme and for its entire validity, so the care can continue after the warranty ends

  • atlantis deployment: coverage design, the choice of base station and the number of repeaters, connection to a PBX or cloud service, handset registration and user training

Warranty

Standard one-year HP Poly limited warranty. Extended support with expedited replacement is provided by the Poly+ Partner programme.

FAQ

How many handsets can I connect to this station?

We do not state the number of registered handsets for this code. The station handles up to 10 simultaneous calls in single cell mode and up to 20 service profiles per handset. We therefore recommend sizing the system by the number of simultaneous calls.

How does it differ from the Rove B4?

The Rove B2 is meant for one or two cells, the Rove B4 for a multicell system of up to 254 stations and 1,000 handsets. The B2 handles up to 10 simultaneous calls, the B4 up to 8 per station and 2,000 across the system. The B2 has the adapter in the box, the B4 is PoE powered and has no adapter in the box. The B2 takes up to six repeaters, the B4 three.

Is a power adapter in the box?

Yes. On the Rove B2 a 5 V 2 A adapter with an EU plug is part of the box, together with a desk stand. On the Rove B4 there is no adapter in the box, that station is PoE powered.

What area does the station cover?

Up to 5,000 square feet in single cell mode and up to 15,000 in dual cell mode, roughly 465 and 1,390 m². Range indoors is up to 50 metres, and with R8 repeaters up to 300 metres outdoors depending on the environment.

How many R8 repeaters can be connected?

Up to six Poly Rove R8 repeaters on one Rove B2 station. On the Rove B4 it is three. A repeater needs no data socket, a mains one is enough, and it supports encrypted daisy chaining.

Which DECT band does the station work in?

The 1880 to 1900 MHz band for Europe, Australia, the United Kingdom and the Asia Pacific region. The US versions of the handsets and the repeater use 1920 to 1930 MHz. Order the whole system in European codes with the #ABB suffix.
