The handset does not work on its own. A Poly Rove system consists of a handset and a base station, in our offering the Rove B2 (8J8W3AA#ABB) or the Rove B4 (8J8W4AA#ABB). Neither the base station nor a repeater is in the handset box, both are ordered separately.

Key features

  • Colour TFT LCD display, 2.4 inch diagonal, 240 × 320 resolution

  • IP65 rating, dust-tight and water resistant

  • Drop proof from up to two metres

  • Rechargeable Li-ion battery, up to 18 hours of talk time and up to 300 hours of standby

  • Bluetooth 4.2 for a wireless headset

  • Range of up to 50 metres indoors from a base station or repeater

Description

A phone for movement, not for a desk

The Rove 40 is meant for sites where the employee does not stay at a desk. The IP65 rating means resistance to dust and splashing water, and HP adds drop protection from up to two metres. The handset comes with a belt clip in the box and weighs 171 grams. The battery lasts up to 18 hours of talk time and up to 300 hours of standby, so a full shift with room to spare.

The handset is not the whole system

Rove is a DECT system and the handset registers to a base station. We offer two, the Rove B2 for single or dual cell and the Rove B4 for multicell deployments of up to 254 base stations. Coverage is extended by the Rove R8 repeater. None of that is in the handset box. When quoting, always handle the handset and the infrastructure together, otherwise the customer receives a device with nothing to register to.

Bluetooth is the difference against the Rove 30

The Rove 40 has Bluetooth 4.2, while the Rove 30 does not list it in its spec sheet. Both have the 3.5 mm jack for a corded headset. The display, battery, IP65 rating and drop protection are identical on both models and the weight difference is three grams. If the customer does not need a wireless headset, the Rove 30 is a full alternative.

Strengths and limits

Strengths

  • IP65 rating and two metre drop protection, suitable for a warehouse or production floor

  • Battery good for up to 18 hours of talk time, it lasts a shift without recharging

  • A headset either corded via the 3.5 mm jack or wireless over Bluetooth 4.2

  • DECT encryption and DECT security certification

  • The box includes the adapter, charging cradle, battery and belt clip

Limits and what to tell the customer

  • The base station is not in the box. Without a Rove B2 or B4 the handset has nowhere to register.

  • It is a pure DECT device. It is the base station that connects to the network, not the handset.

  • Antimicrobial protection is available for Rove 40 models, not as a property of every order code. Verify with us before promising it to a customer.

  • The warranty is one year, not two as on part of the Poly range.

⚑ atlantis note

Quote the handset and the base station as one item

The most common mistake with the Rove range is ordering handsets alone. The system starts with the base station, which determines how many handsets register and how many calls run at once. Ask first about the number of users and the area to cover, only then about the handset model. One building or floor usually calls for the B2, a campus or several buildings for the B4 in multicell mode.

Verify the antimicrobial finish on the specific code

The Rove range offers antimicrobial protection as available on both the Rove 30 and the Rove 40, while our price list mentions it on the Rove 40. It is not guaranteed on every order code. Verify it with us before promising it, particularly in healthcare or food industry deployments where it tends to be part of the specification.

The base station, not the handset, sets the DECT band

The handset auto configures to the frequency of the base station. HP's US spec sheet quotes 1920 to 1930 MHz for the handset, while the European B2 and B4 base stations work in the 1880 to 1900 MHz band. Order the European codes with the #ABB suffix and do not mix them with goods from other regions.

Which base station will be deployed, B2 or B4. How many users and how many simultaneous calls. What area needs covering and whether R8 repeaters will be required. Whether an antimicrobial finish is part of the specification.

Consider another model

The Rove 30 if the customer does not need a wireless headset. A Poly Edge E or CCX for a fixed desk position. A Poly Savi wireless headset if the movement is only within the office.

The "Verify" and "Consider another model" cards come from the experience of the atlantis team.

The atlantis team helps with every point. From the coverage design and the choice of base station through connecting to the PBX to training the users.

Management and services

  • System management: configuration and handset registration are done on the base station, not on the handset; the handset joins the system once it has been registered

  • Poly+ Partner: local support from an experienced certified team in Czech, by phone, chat, web and video call, priority device replacement where the manufacturer ships the replacement the next business day and covers the shipping, all under the terms of the programme and for its entire validity, so the care can continue after the warranty ends

  • atlantis deployment: coverage design, the choice of base station and the number of repeaters, connection to a PBX or cloud service, handset registration and user training

Warranty

Standard one-year HP Poly limited warranty. Extended support with expedited replacement is provided by the Poly+ Partner programme.

FAQ

Does the handset work on its own, without a base station?

No. Poly Rove is a DECT system and the handset has to register to a base station. We offer two, the Rove B2 under code 8J8W3AA#ABB and the Rove B4 under code 8J8W4AA#ABB. Neither is in the handset box.

How does the Rove 40 differ from the Rove 30?

The Rove 40 has Bluetooth 4.2. The Rove 40 is three grams heavier, 171 against 168 grams. The display, battery, IP65 rating and drop protection are identical.

What is in the handset box?

The handset, a Li-ion battery, a charging cradle, an AC power adapter, a belt clip, a quick start guide and a safety information sheet. The base station, a repeater and a headset are not in the box.

Can I connect a headset to the handset?

Yes, in two ways. A corded headset via the 3.5 mm jack, and on the Rove 40 also a wireless headset over Bluetooth 4.2.

What is the range?

Up to 50 metres indoors from the base station. Coverage is extended by the Rove R8 repeater, which reaches up to 300 metres outdoors. Up to six repeaters can be attached to a B2 base station and up to three to a B4.

Does the handset have an antimicrobial finish?

Antimicrobial protection is available for both the Rove 30 and the Rove 40, and our price list mentions it on the Rove 40. It is not guaranteed for every order code, so verify it with us before promising it to a customer.
