What it is for
A training cable is the cheapest tool for onboarding agents in a contact centre. The new starter runs the call, the trainer listens on the second headset and steps in where needed. That removes the need for recording, transcription and delayed feedback, the correction comes at once.
The second common use is supervision and quality calibration. Either way the cable is a one-off spend of a few hundred crowns, while onboarding a new agent costs an order of magnitude more.

Both headsets need the same connector
The splitter does not convert between connector types. Trainer and trainee both need a headset with the same connection. In a mixed fleet that is the first surprise, so verify it in advance.
How many to order
One cable per team, not per agent. Training happens at one desk and the cable moves around, one or two per shift is enough for most contact centres.

Does the trainer hear the far end as well?
Yes. Both headsets are on the same line, so the trainer hears both the agent and the customer and can step into the call.
Do both headsets have to be the same model?
Not the same model, but the same connector type. The splitter does not convert between connections.
Can it be used for two agents permanently?
That is not its purpose. The cable is meant for training and supervision, that is a temporary second headset on one line.
